2027 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Facelift: A New Face and a Much Smarter Cabin

The C-class gets a reworked front end, new colors, a redesigned steering wheel, and a more advanced AI-based virtual assistant.

Mercedes isn't reinventing the C-Class for 2027 so much as sharpening it, and most of that sharpening happens on the software side rather than under the sheet metal.

Exterior Changes

The front end gets the most obvious update. New headlights now connect to a black surround around the grille, a design cue borrowed from the refreshed S-Class. The grille itself is larger than before and dips lower into the bumper, framed by a chrome border with an illuminated three-pointed star sitting front and center. A thin LED strip traces the inside edge of that chrome trim, and Mercedes has carried the three-pointed-star motif into the headlight and taillight graphics, tying the look together with the rest of the current lineup.

There are a few smaller touches too: puddle lamps in the mirrors that project the Mercedes logo onto the ground, and LED projectors built into the side sills that throw a pattern onto the pavement when you approach the car. Buyers get a new 18-inch wheel design, two additional 19-inch AMG wheel options, and two new paint colors — Miami Silver Metallic and Moody Sky Grey Metallic. There's also a new AMG Line Plus package that adds a sportier look, along with sport seats trimmed in red contrast stitching and red seatbelts.

A Redesigned Interior — and an AI Assistant Running the Show

Inside, the C-Class doesn't look dramatically different from the outgoing model at first glance, but the steering wheel has been reworked with a physical scroll wheel for volume control — a small but welcome return of a physical control. The layout still pairs an 11.9-inch central touchscreen with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, but the software underneath has changed significantly. Mercedes' MB.OS platform now supports over-the-air updates for the entire vehicle, not just the infotainment system.

The bigger shift is inside MBUX itself. Mercedes has added a conversational AI assistant that draws on multiple outside models — including ChatGPT, Microsoft Bing, and Google Gemini — to handle different types of requests. According to Mercedes, the assistant is built to hold multi-turn conversations and retain short-term context, so it can follow up on earlier parts of a conversation rather than treating every command as a one-off. The system can also use context from what you're saying to suggest music or a podcast it thinks you'll like, or help track down a song when you can only half-remember the title or artist.

Once you do land on the right track, you can hear it through the optional Burmester surround sound system, which supports Dolby Atmos across 15 speakers. Elsewhere in the cabin, Mercedes has added 64-color ambient lighting, two new upholstery shades (Beech Brown and Cherry Red), and new trim options in Natural Grain Birch Wood and High-Gloss Silver Metallic.

Powertrain: Same Numbers, New Tricks

Mechanically, the update is more of a refinement than a redesign. The C-Class keeps its turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder paired with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, and total output is unchanged at 255 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. What's new is how that power gets delivered: the integrated starter-generator can now contribute up to 23 hp and 151 lb-ft on its own at lower engine speeds, and the 48-volt system powers an electric auxiliary compressor that can spool up almost instantly to help the turbocharger respond faster off the line. There's also a new temporary boost function that adds 27 hp for up to 20 seconds — useful for quick overtakes.

Mercedes says the suspension has been retuned for sharper handling, with revised adjustable dampers aimed at controlling body movement more tightly. The side mirrors have also been reshaped to cut down on wind noise, part of a broader effort to quiet down the cabin. The C-Class also picks up the augmented-reality head-up display previously reserved for the S-Class.

Availability

The refreshed C-Class is expected to reach U.S. dealerships in the first half of next year. Mercedes hasn't announced pricing yet, but given that the outgoing 2026 C-Class starts around $51,000, expect the facelifted version to open somewhat higher than that.
