Last updated: October 2026. Prices and specs below come from Kia and the outlets linked in each section.

If you have been waiting for an electric SUV that does not cost as much as a house deposit, the 2027 Kia EV3 is the one to look at. It is Kia's cheapest EV in the United States, it rides on the same E-GMP platform as the EV6 and EV9, and it is the first Kia EV to start under $30,000. Here is everything you need to decide whether it deserves a spot on your shortlist.

Range and Charging

The base Light trim uses the smaller 58.3 kWh battery. Every other trim gets the 81.4 kWh pack. Front-wheel-drive versions with the big battery reach up to 321 miles, while all-wheel-drive versions drop to about 280 miles because the second motor uses extra energy.

The EV3 runs on a 400-volt system rather than the 800-volt setup in the EV6 and EV9, yet Kia still claims a 10–80% fast charge in about 29 minutes (small battery) or 31 minutes (large battery). It also comes with a native NACS port, so you can plug into Tesla-style fast chargers without an adapter. See the details in Automotive World's launch coverage.

Living somewhere cold? Reports say a battery heater is standard, a heat pump is available on AWD models, and heated front seats and steering wheel are optional (autoevolution).

Performance

This is not a sports car, but it is not slow either. TFLcar reports about 6.3 seconds from 0 to 60 mph for the Wind AWD and about 5.4 seconds for the GT AWD with 288 hp. That is more than enough for merging and overtaking. Read the full breakdown at TFLcar.

Interior and Technology

  • Screens: two 12.3-inch displays (driver cluster and touchscreen) plus a small 5-inch climate panel.
  • Connected services: cloud-based navigation, over-the-air updates, and video streaming such as Netflix and YouTube for use when parked.
  • Home power: available vehicle-to-home charging with a bidirectional wallbox.
  • Driver aids: available 360° Surround View Monitor and Blind-Spot View Monitor. These help, but they never replace paying attention.

2027 Kia EV3 vs. Its Main Rivals

Cheap EVs are finally getting interesting. Here is how the EV3 stacks up against the two most obvious alternatives, based on figures reported at the time of writing:

ModelStarting priceRangeAWD available?
Kia EV3$29,890Up to 321 miYes
Chevrolet BoltAbout $28,995262 miNo
Nissan LeafAbout $29,990Up to 303 miNo

The Bolt and Leaf can undercut or match the EV3 on sticker price, but the Kia offers the longest range at the top of the lineup and is the only one with available AWD. Compare prices in more detail at GM Authority.

Pros and Cons

What we like

  • Under-$30,000 starting price
  • Up to 321 miles of EPA range
  • Built-in NACS charging port
  • Available AWD and a strong tech package

What to think about

  • The base Light trim only gets about 221 miles
  • AWD costs you roughly 40 miles of range
  • 400-volt charging is not the fastest in the class
  • The destination fee pushes the real starting price above $31,000

Other New 2027 Cars Worth Watching

The EV3 is not the only fresh face. Several brands launched 2027 model-year vehicles this year:

  • 2027 Volkswagen Atlas: the first full redesign of VW's three-row SUV. A new turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder is reported at around 282 hp (details here). Visit VW's official site for updates.
  • 2027 Kia Seltos: a second-generation subcompact SUV with new styling and more space. Gas versions came first and a hybrid follows later.
  • 2027 Chrysler Pacifica: a minivan with a refreshed front end and Chrysler's new wing logo.

Is the 2027 Kia EV3 Worth Buying?

For most commuters and small families, yes. If you drive mostly in town, pick the Wind FWD for the best mix of price and 321-mile range. If you live where winter is serious, the Land AWD makes more sense. Skip the base Light only if you regularly drive long distances. Whatever you choose, test drive it and compare insurance quotes first.

Before You Buy: Useful Tools

  • Check official efficiency and range data at FuelEconomy.gov.
  • Find public chargers and local incentives through the U.S. Department of Energy's Alternative Fuels Data Center. The federal new-EV tax credit ended for vehicles acquired after September 30, 2025, so look at state and utility offers instead.
  • Review crash-test results at IIHS and NHTSA once ratings for the EV3 are published.
